You may have caught on Instagram (@thelittlebitsblog) that a few weeks ago I traveled to Austria. Although the weather ended up unseasonably warm while we were there that didn’t stop us from tracking down some snow. One of our last days there we made the trek (in a cable car) up the mountainside to see some snow and enjoy the views. I was of course thrilled to finally wear some of my winter gear. I’ve been slowly stocking up over the past few years and even though people think I’m crazy since we live in San Diego; I knew I would need it one day! My Sorel boots were the best decision ever. I can’t say enough good things about these shoes! Other than that I wore merino wool under layers from Icebreaker, my thickest Columbia coat, and a wool beanie. Wearing wool in cold climates makes such a difference to me.
More about the trip coming soon!
Have you ever tried something on that looked impossibly horrible on the hanger but made you twirl in circles in the dressing room once you had it on? …No? Just me?
This dress looked so unassuming on the hanger that I almost didn’t try it. But it is freaking adorable on! It swishes and sashays with every step. It turned out to be the perfect dress for a spring wedding we attended this past weekend. The attached cape is perfect for covering bare shoulders and I can attest that the skirt flows beautifully on a super windy day. Now, if only my hair would do the same…
Wishing all the Marines in my life a Happy 241st Birthday!
We were so excited to attend our Birthday Ball last Friday with my parents and Ben’s parents there. It was truly a family affair. I had originally planned on wearing a vintage dress I
begged and pleaded my husband to buy purchased this past summer but at the last minute decided I wanted to go a different route. Unfortunately, I was tight on budget and time and needed something that could be delivered quickly. Amazon.com to the rescue! I found this dress for $53 (now $48!) and we had free prime shipping. It fits like a dream! If you’re interested it also comes in gold, rose gold, black and red.
You must be thinking, sheesh, another wedding?! Yes, its the last one of the year and I think its safe to say we’re all wedding-ed out. I found this adorable Kate Spade number a while back and immediately fell in love with it. Unfortunately, at over $400 it wasn’t going to be mine any time soon. I saved the photo on my phone and looked at it longingly about once a week. Low and behold a few months ago in June I found the dress at our local Kate Spade outlet on crazy sale and managed to snag it for $110. The bow on this dress is everything! It has pockets, the color is divine, the length is perfect, the list goes on! I can guarantee this won’t be the last time you see this beauty.
I don’t typically post twice a day but had to get this post out as soon as possible! We visited Cape Cod a few weeks ago after the Vermont Wedding. In true Cape Cod fashion, I donned my favorite white Lilly Pulitzer dress for a date night out (for lobstah of course!). I originally bought this dress back in August of last year during Lilly Pulitzer’s After Party Sale for our wedding rehearsal dinner. It is my absolute favorite Lilly dress! The lace detail is so gorgeous. Lucky for you, the new version is on sale now and in stock in almost all sizes! It is the Raegan Fit & Flare Dress (here in patterned) with another all white totally similar option, the Sofia Lace Shift Dress (here), or the Sofia Lace Shift Dress in patterned (here). I find that the Raegan runs true to size (I’m in a size 0). I’m thinking I may need another one in the Multi Hibiscus Stroll print… All the dresses mentioned are currently going for $59 plus free shipping. Get your hands on one while you can, the sale ends Tuesday August 23rd!
A few days after the La Jolla Wedding we flew to Vermont for Ben’s cousin’s wedding. I originally had plans to wear a dress I brought with me from home but after a pit stop at Marshall’s to pick up some lotion I ended up with another dress. I loved the idea of wearing the new dress so much that I ended up wearing it for the wedding that afternoon! Talk about unexpected (coming from the OCD planner herself!). Luckily, all of the accessories I brought with me worked really well with the ($20!) dress, right down to the shoes and nail polish color. The reception was held at a beautiful Inn in Essex, VT that I was nudging Ben about going back to visit. Hopefully our next trip we’re able to spend a night or two there. We knew this would be a quick trip (arrive late Thursday evening, wedding Friday, hit the road Saturday morning) so it didn’t pan out for this visit but we’ll back soon. I can’t wait to wear the dress again in the fall with black tights, booties, and a chunky sweater. Or maybe with flats and a blazer for work. The options and color combinations with this one are endless! Apparently I wasn’t the only one that loved the dress because when we showed up to the reception one of the wedding coordinators was wearing the exact same dress. We both had a good laugh when she and I realized what we were both wearing 🙂
One of my very good friends was married on Sunday in a beautiful ceremony overlooking the ocean in La Jolla, CA. It was a wonderful evening with plenty of dinner, drinks and dancing. I picked up this adorable BCBG dress at their outlet store a few weeks back (for $49!!!!) and knew it would be perfect for the occasion. Enjoy!
What better way to celebrate my 27th birthday than a fancy Italian dinner and strolling empty streets? I scored this awesome red dress at Nordstrom Rack on Saturday, on clearance for all of $14.40. I just adore the color and sleeves, especially the crochet details! But the best part? Its loose and flowy which means eating as much gnocchi gorgonzola as I want 😉
